Hydrolyze is a dark circles under eye cream that makes numerous strong claims regarding its effectiveness. On the Hydrolyze website, it is claimed that the product will reduce the dark appearance of circles by as much as 45%. It also claims to reduce bags by up to 68% as well as reducing facial wrinkles.

Hydrolyze claims:
- Reduction of dark circles: In over 60% of volunteers, <45% reduction
- Reduction of bags: <68%

- Reduction in wrinkles

Haloxyl and Matrixyl 3000 are both developed by the same company, Sederma, which produces many active ingredients for cosmetic products. Sederma is a major player in the cosmetic industry and is generally known for rigorously testing their ingredients as well as mandating a certain ppm for products that use their ingredients. Sederma is more of a lab than a cosmetics company so there is a significant distinction between Sederma and the companies that use their ingredients.

Active Ingredients:
- Haloxyl (Sederma) aims to reduce discoloration.

- Matrixyl 3000 (Sederma) aims to reduce wrinkles.

Haloxyl has received a lot of buzz lately and is used in a variety of creams and serums created to reduce under eye dark circles. The effective success rate for all products that use Haloxyl ranges between 19-45%. Keep in mind that this includes any eye cream that contains Haloxyl and is not necessarily representative of Hydrolyze or any other eye cream you are considering.

There are no known side-effects to Haloxyl. That does not mean that it is impossible to suffer an adverse reaction to products containing Haloxyl; it just means that there are no known skin-related side effects associated with the Haloxyl ingredient itself. That being said, it is a synthetic ingredient that has been rigorously tested for safety. As with any skin product however, you should consult your physician or dermatologist before using any skin product, especially those that are used daily for extended periods of time.

Haloxyl works against the appearance of dark under eye circles by encouraging natural recoloring of the lids and by diminishing the unhealthy functions below the skin. Most eye discoloration is caused by leaking capillaries that are inefficiently circulating the structures underneath the eye. Haloxyl attempts to dissolve blood deposits that create the bluish or brown circles beneath the eye and also repairs and strengthens capillaries to prevent further leaking.
Haloxyl is intended to be used once daily and the effects are most noticeable when used on a daily basis for 30 days or more.

Haloxyl:
- Products which contain Haloxyl have seen effective results between 19-45%.
- Uses in many established products.

- No known short term side effects. Long term side effects unknown.

Matrixyl 3000 is thought to be the predecessor to the original Matrixyl. They are both developed by Sederma, but are only related in name and purpose. They are both peptide-based, but are chemically dissimilar. Matrixyl 3000 is actually a combination of two peptides, which Sederma has clinically proven have a synergistic effect which compounds their effectiveness. In both their tissue sample tests, and volunteer studies, Matrixyl 3000 has shown significant improvement (14-44%) over placebos and smaller levels of improvement over the original Matrixyl.

Matrixyl 3000:
- Sederma's clinical studies have shown 14-44% improvement over placebos.
- No known short term side effects. Long term side effects unknown.

Hydrolyze claims compared to known clinical testing:
- Discoloration reduction claimed: In over 60% of volunteers, <45% reduction
- Discoloration reduction proven: In products containing Haloxyl, 19-45% positive results
- Bag Reduction claimed: <68%

- Bag Reduction proven: Have not found evidence for or against.
- Wrinkle Reduction claimed: Does not specify.
- Wrinkle Reduction proven: 14-44% wrinkle reduction compared to placebo.

Conclusion:

Hydrolyze obviously contains some legitimate lab-tested ingredients, which eliminates the possibility of a scam. However, some of their statistics might be exaggerated or not advertised. It is probable that Hydrolyze will work for some and not others. There are significant improvements to both discoloration reduction and wrinkle reduction shown in the clinical testing. Most of the tests are done by Sederma and not independently published sources. Hydrolyze may be a good choice for those who have not yet found a solution for their discoloration/wrinkle problem.
